Abstract: (12 Views)
Urban management in the current era of extensive urbanization requires multi-level and compound necessities to face the complex and future challenges of cities. A glance at the modern literature on urban sustainability in contemporary cities reveals the establishment of urban sustainability and resilience. From this perspective, greater understanding of the shared and differing aspects of these components, particularly in the less known field of new cities as a novel context for urbanization, is one of these necessities. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between urban sustainability and resilience from the perspective of urban experts in new town of Pardis. The research approach is quantitative and practical in nature. The research data collection tools include the use of a researcher-made questionnaire consistent with the logic of deductive reasoning, gathering the opinions of 66 experts in Pardis. The research results indicate weak levels of sustainability in this city (less than 3 score on the Likert scale), but a significant correlation with the probable resilience component of the city. Additionally, meaningful and direct relationships between the two components of sustainability and resilience in this town at various evaluated levels can be observed. The highest direct impact between sustainability and environmental resilience is estimated at a coefficient (0.547), and the lowest impact on the town's economic resilience is estimated at a coefficient (0.395). Overall, the research findings suggest the necessity of joint and deeper attention to the two components of urban sustainability and resilience in new towns, and a focus on the estimated strengths and weaknesses to synergize these two key aspects of sustainable urban management.
